A message from Mayor Coleman on behalf of City Council:

Hello friends.

We have found ourselves in a defining moment. We know the people who make up our community to be strong, kind, hardworking people who rush to help one another in a crisis and show kindness to each other in simple ways every day. It has been amazing to watch the outpouring of community support and volunteerism for our partners, healthcare professionals, emergency responders, and frontline employees in multiple industries. We also thank you for doing your part to slow the spread of the virus by staying home when possible and practicing the recommendations from the health department for social distancing and hand washing at all times.

Our hearts break as we learn about community members who are concerned about how they will move forward, businesses that have had to close, and our friends and neighbors that have lost employment. As we begin to see cases increase in the SanLuis Valley, it’s important for us to remember to help each other to the best of our abilities.

We will continue to have difficult days ahead as researchers around the world work to find a solution to COVID-19. We want you to know that we are here working for you and thinking of how this outbreak is affecting you every day. We are doing all we can to monitor new legislation, stimulus funds, small business solutions, and anything else that may help you and your family through the outbreak. We are working closely with our partners and to them we say thank you.

Kindness. Safety. Peace.

We encourage you to focus on these important things as we find our way through this difficult time together. We can define ourselves now as the strong and resilient community we know ourselves to be as we move forward together.

Be well.
Mayor Coleman
