FRIDAY FACTOIDS- Once considered "one of the show spots of Trinidad" Ft. Wooton Memorial Square, located on the Southwest corner of Walnut and First Streets, is a huge stone building that stretches for the entire block. Although it was meant to resemble a Western frontier fort, it was actually built in the 1930's as a WPA project during the Great Depression. The structure is comprised of a series of small buildings around a central courtyard, each building designated for use as a meeting place for one of the various veterans' organizations. Locals knew the building as the location for the Department of Human Services for many years, but it has recently been reclaimed for use by Veterans' Organizations once again.
