Las Animas County recently applied for and was awarded a Road Improvement Energy Impact Assistance Grant for $515,000 to place asphalt on County Road 41.7 Sarcillo Canyon located West of Segundo. The County’s Road and Bridge Department contributed $500,000 cash and $15,000 of in-kind work as its match for the grant and project.
The project was competitively bid from which the Board of County Commissioners awarded the bid to the lowest bidder, Walsenburg Sand and Gravel for $845,440.00. A subsequent change order increased the asphalt tonnage to be placed and the project cost to $1,012,806.67. Below is a picture of Walsenburg Sand and Gravel’s paving operation placing asphalt on County Road 41.7. Expect traffic delays during this project.
