In honor of Suicide Awareness Month, we would like to share with you our BHCON (Behavioral Health Connect Unit)'s August 2020 stats:
We received 396 Mental Health related calls for service.
We received 203 suicide related 9-1-1 calls.
99% of the calls diverted people from going to jail.
94% of the calls diverted people from going to the ER.
72% of calls were Check the Welfare and Suicide Related calls for service.
The top 3 locations in the county for BHCON response are: the far east side of the county, the
Security/Widefield area, and the Cimarron Hills area.
The team successfully reached out to clients 56% of the time after initial contact to provide continual support.
The daily duties and responsibilities of the BHCON team include responding to crisis 911 calls, taking referrals from other EPSO deputies to respond to identified individuals, and completing follow up visits and/or phone calls to individuals previously contacted by BHCON.
BHCON is continually seeking to understand the needs of our community to know how to best respond to crises.
