WEAPONS VIOLATION
On September 12, 2020 at approximately 12:25 a.m., Pueblo police officers were dispatched to a hotel in the 4000 block of N. Elizabeth Street regarding a man with a weapon. Information was provided to officers that a male driving a silver Mercedes Benz sedan had some type of assault rifle in the front seat of his vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers were quickly directed to the location of the vehicle by witnesses. As the officers approached the male and removed him from the vehicle, he reached for what was later determined to be a Glock handgun in and long gun conversion kit. Accompanying the weapon were two loaded magazines, one of which was a high capacity magazine loaded with 31 rounds of ammunition. The other magazine, which was in the firearm, was loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition. In addition to the two loaded magazines, two additional unloaded magazines were also in the vehicle, one of which was another high capacity magazine. The firearm was cleared and found to have been stolen in a carjacking that occurred in June of 2020.
Due to the quick and decisive actions of the officers, they prevented this incident from escalating into a more serious situation. The suspect, 25-year-old Jaime Garcia, was arrested on the charges of Theft and Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender.
