Volunteers are needed to assist the Friends of Fountain Creek Dog Park in their first cleanup of the park on Saturday, October 10, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Participants will need to bring their own shovel, scoop or implement of choice. Trash bags and buckets will be provided.

The Problem with Poop – Fall is a good time to clean up the Fountain Creek Dog Park. In addition to the foul smell, and the unpleasant results of stepping in pet waste, it is also affecting water quality. Pet waste contains nutrients and disease-bearing organisms. Pet waste left on trails and parks can be carried by rain and melting show, contaminating lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands and groundwater.

These volunteer cleanup events are a fun way to maintain County dog parks while raising awareness about the problem of excessive excrement in parks. Every year, volunteers collect hundreds of pounds of pet waste from County dog parks.

Fountain Creek Dog Park is located at 2010 Duckwood Road, in Fountain Creek Regional Park. To volunteer or to receive more information about the Friends Group, please contact Dana Nordstrom, at (719) 520-6983 or at DanaNordstrom@elpasoco.com.
