The Colorado Springs Police and Fire Department Public Safety Communications Center announces the annual Telecommunicator of the Year Ceremony!
Date: Wednesday, April 17, 2019
Time: 2:00 PM
Location: Police Operations Center Community Room (705 South Nevada Avenue)
Each year, the second full week of April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as Public Safety Telecommunicators. It was first conceived by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County (Calif.) Sheriff's Office in 1981, and grew into a congressional House Resolution made to create "National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week" in 1991. This year, National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week has been designated from April 14 through April 20.
As part of the national initiative, on a yearly basis, the Colorado Springs Police and Fire Department Public Safety Communications Center recognizes the outstanding work performed by Emergency Response Technicians (ERT) and Public Safety Dispatchers (PSD). The center has an authorized staff of 49 ERTs, 42 PSDs, two Training Coordinators, eight Shift Supervisors, two Lead Supervisors, one Manager, one CAD Administrator, one Senior Office/Audio Specialist, and three hourly support personnel.
In 2018, the Public Safety Communications Center processed 866,039 total calls, 252,469 of which were to 9-1-1. They are an Accredited Center of Excellence with the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch and Certified 911 Call Center Partner with The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Please help us honor these dedicated professionals.
