Moose the Reading Dog Retires!

Come celebrate Moose the Reading Dog on Friday, September 13 from 3-5 p.m. at the Alamosa Public Library. This family-friendly event is a chance for Alamosa Public Library and the community to say thank you and wish Moose a happy retirement.

Eleven-year-old Moose, a gentle, patient listener, is well known throughout the San Luis Valley. Over the last seven years, Moose has helped many children confidently grow their reading skills by simply listening to them read books. He has served readers at Alamosa Public Library, the Neilsen Library at Adams State University, and at Alamosa Elementary School campuses. Moose has loved this work, but in his retirement he looks forward to napping, chasing squirrels, and long walks with his family.

There will be a variety of fun activities at this celebratory library event, including Storytime, puppy puppets, toy animal adoptions, and a Moose the Reading Dog book raffle! Attendees can check out the display of Moose’s illustrious career as a therapy dog. The highlight of the event, however, will be giving Moose the Reading Dog lots of love and thanks.

A registered therapy dog team, Moose and his owner, Dr. Laura Bruneau, an Adams State University Professor of Counselor Education, belong to Pet Partners, the nation’s largest and most prestigious nonprofit registering volunteer teams who provide animal-assisted interventions. Information about Pet Partners can be found on their website: petpartners.org/

For more information regarding Moose’s Retirement Party, please call the library at (719) 589-3786. The Alamosa Public Library is located at 300 Hunt Avenue in Alamosa.
