On November 23, 2019 at approximately 10:38 p.m., Pueblo police officers responded to a residence located in the 3200 block of Rex Street regarding an active domestic disturbance. Officers encountered an armed male suspect inside the residence and used deadly force against him, which resulted in his death. Officers responded to the residence after a 9-1-1 emergency call was made to the Pueblo Police Department Communications Center. During the 9-1-1 call, a crying female could be heard on the line along with a male in the background who was making threats. When officers arrived, they heard screaming and yelling coming from inside the residence. A male could be heard threatening to take a female as a hostage. Due to the exigent circumstances, the officers made entry into the home in an effort to stop an active threat to a female victim. As they entered through the front door, the female ran out of the home and a male appeared in a hallway. The male was holding a weapon and firing it at the officers. The officers returned fire and struck the male. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigation later revealed that the weapon the male was firing at the officers was a CO2 pistol.
