On December 20, 2019, the Fountain Police Department’s Patrol Division began an investigation into a report of sexual assault on a 14 year old child.

On January 3, 2020 the suspect was contacted in a Fountain neighborhood, and arrested. The suspect has been identified as, 31 year old, Khurtis Maasch of Colorado Springs. Maasch is also employed as a Corrections Officer with the Colorado Department of Corrections.

He was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and charged with five felonies: Two counts of Sexual Assault on a Child, and three counts of Internet Luring of a Child.

The Fountain Police Department believes there may be other victims who were involved with the suspect. We would also like to thank the Colorado Department of Corrections for their assistance in this investigation. Here is a statement from the Department of Corrections: “Our department is appalled by the alleged behavior of Mr. Maasch,"said Annie Skinner, Public Information Officer for the Department of Corrections. "We thank the Fountain Police Department for their work, and will assist them in any way we can. The alleged incidents and actions happened outside of our facility, and go against everything we stand for as a department. Mr. Maasch will be suspended from the department as the proper next steps are taken in accordance with the state personnel rules.”

This continues to be an active investigation. Any new information will only be released from the Public Safety Information Officer when, and if, it is appropriate.
