ATTEMPTED VEHICULAR ASSAULT

On May 12, 2020 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Pueblo police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of Lancaster Drive regarding a vehicular assault in progress. Pueblo police dispatch aired two females were arguing at this location, and one female in a vehicle was chasing another female on foot. The suspect left in a white sedan prior to officers’ arrival.

Responding officers observed the sedan traveling into oncoming lanes of traffic at Lake Avenue and W Pueblo Boulevard. The sedan appeared to make a quick turn but spun out of control and went off the south side of the road. The vehicle struck a crosswalk pole and knocked it over which caused damage to the vehicle’s left rear tire. Officers attempted to apprehend the driver, but she swerved around one officer’s marked patrol vehicle and struck another officer’s marked patrol vehicle. The marked patrol vehicle that was struck was unoccupied at the time and no officers were injured. The female proceeded to Interstate 25 where she went northbound.

Another officer saw the sedan on I-25 near the Abriendo Avenue interchange and observed smoke and sparks coming from the rear of the vehicle. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver was undeterred and continued northbound at a high rate of speed on the damaged wheel. The officer terminated the pursuit as the vehicle passed the 13th Street exit. The officer watched the vehicle swerve toward the Highway 50 Bypass exit and saw that it almost lost control as it turned to head eastbound on the Bypass. Numerous people directed the officer to where the vehicle was stopped in the 1300 block of Alexander Circle. The officer was able to contact the driver, 39-year-old Jolene Iacabone, who was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigation revealed that a dispute between the suspect and her daughter took place at the residence on Lancaster Drive. The dispute escalated into an argument and then a physical confrontation. At that point the suspect went outside, got into her large SUV, and began ramming her daughter`s sedan which was parked in the driveway. The daughter ran outside and yelled for her mother to stop, pounding on the SUV’s window in the process. The suspect then began driving erratically in the street, driving in circles as her daughter stood near the sidewalk. The suspect eventually sped up, followed behind her daughter as she ran away in the street, and attempted to strike her with the SUV. The daughter ran across the street and through two yards as her mother pursued, driving through the yards. The daughter was able to cross back over to Lancaster Drive where she ran to a house down the street. The suspect went back to the original location where she parked the SUV in the middle of the lawn and got into her daughter’s sedan. The suspect then left in the sedan and drove southbound on Lancaster Drive.

Iacabone was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Vehicular Assault, Eluding, and numerous other charges. ###
