Throwback Thursday #TBT
Monument's first creamery in 1911. This was located at the corner of Second and Beacon Lite Rd., just east of the Sante Fe tracks (now the trail and where The Enchanted Florist of Monument, Colorado, Schur Success Group – Real Estate, Auction, Fundraising, Asset Appraisal and Arlene's Beans, Salsa and Catering are located).
According to the book, "Through The Years at Monument, Colorado" by Lucille Lavelett, farmers would bring their milk by horse and wagon to the creamery and was their only source of cash prior to the harvest.
The creamery would ship several loads of milk each day via railroad and storing the milk in ice, harvested on Monument Lake. In those days, milk was 10 cents a gallon.
