The mission of the Adolescent Pregnancy Program is two-fold: (1) to help youth, teens, and young adults gain the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about their sexual health and (2) to encourage behavioral change to support the prevention and reduction of adolescent pregnancies (in ages 15-19), unplanned pregnancies (in ages 20-24), and sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) throughout Pueblo County. The program utilizes a message of abstinence and contraception to encourage teens and young adults to make responsible, healthy choices. This mission is reached using various strategies, including peer education in schools, an evidence-based curriculum, a medically accurate and anonymous texting service, and implementation of an ongoing teen/unintended pregnancy and STI prevention media campaign.
