Custer County has 4 new positive cases of COVID 19 as of this morning 7/13/2020. Two are family members of the original case from ACE Hardware and the other two are ACE employees.
This makes our current case count 7 positives, 2 recovered, and 13 pending tests. Individuals that tested positive have already been contacted by Public Health. The remaining negative tests will be contacted by the end of the day. The majority of the pending test should be back by tomorrow. Keeping in mind the clinic continues to test around 15 people a day.
The two additional employees at ACE who tested positive are asymptomatic, which means they are exhibiting no symptoms. This is the reason it is imperative that a mask is worn by everyone while in public. At this point the only way we can battle this is by wearing a mask and social distancing. There is currently no vaccine and we are learning that antibodies in the system do not necessarily last and do not mean that you will not contract the virus again. Think cold vs. chickenpox. Just because you have gotten it once does not mean that you are safe from ever getting it again.
While doing our contact investigation, it was discovered that one of the individuals whom tested positive was at a gathering last night (7/12/2020) with staff from Chappy's. If you were involved in that party you should self quarantine and be tested.
**This post has been edited to reflect the correct information regarding the gathering that involved staff from Chappy's. Thank you to Chappy's for taking the extra precautions to ensure the safety of not only their staff but the community as a whole.**
