If you’ve visited Memorial Park lately, you may have noticed dead fish on the banks of Prospect Lake. We believe high water temperature may be affecting the fish, with the current presence of blue-green algae potentially serving as a compounding factor. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) recently issued this news release regarding water temperature and its effect on fish: https://cpw.state.co.us/aboutus/…/News-Release-Details.aspx….

According to CPW, when temperatures exceed 70 degrees, trout often stop feeding and become more susceptible to disease. Recent temperatures of Prospect Lake are about 75 degrees.

Due to the presence of blue-green algae in the lake, people and pets should continue to avoid bodily contact. Recent test results and more information on blue-green algae, including what we’re doing to treat the lake, can be found at www.coloradosprings.gov/memorialpark.
