Following too closely is an accident cause factor as well as one of the most common causes of road rage (along with illegal passing and speeding). State law states, "The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway." The Colorado Driver's Handbook recommends that you never follow closer than 3 seconds behind the vehicle in front of you. This is a good rule of thumb, however, please remember that you should increase that distance for factors such as slick roads or low visibility. Thank you, Fremont County!
