60 years ago today, the CSPD was contacted by the family members of Mr. James Gaughan, asking if officers would check his home at 2122 North Tejon Street since they had not been able to contact him. Arriving officers found Mr. Gaughan deceased inside his home with an apparent gunshot wound. Evidence suggested he may have been struck in the head before being shot. Mr. Gaughan was a traveling salesman who covered a five state area, selling items to military commissaries and exchanges, and was a former co-owner of E & M Music company on the West side of Colorado Springs. Despite dozens of interviews, no firm suspects were identified, and no arrests have been made. Since that day, CSPD detectives have worked this case, trying to find answers for Mr. Gaughan’s family. If you lived in the 2000 block of North Tejon Street in 1960, or have any information, please call the CSPD at (719) 444-7000.
