The leaves are changing and you can feel Autumn in the air! 1st rifle season is just around the corner and the great outdoors are beckoning. We would like to remind our hunter friends of a few important rules to keep everyone safe.
First, be sure of your target and what's beyond it. Avoid taking the wrong animal, damaging property or accidentally shooting domestic animals or fellow humans.
You may not have a loaded (having a round in the chamber) rifle or shotgun in or on a motor vehicle. 'Motor vehicle' includes motorcycles and ATVs.
Never shoot from or use a motor vehicle.
Wear at least 500 square inches of solid daylight fluorescent orange or solid florescent pink. Even if you are in the woods for other reasons, this is highly recommended. Don't forget to wear some on your head!
Never shoot from, across, or on a public road with a firearm, bow, or crossbow. People firing a bow, rifle, handgun, or single slug shotgun must be at least 50 feet from the centerline of the road.
Never handle a firearm while you are intoxicated by alcohol or drugs.
Please be respectful of private property. There are some excellent applications for your smartphone to assist you in determining the boundaries of private and public lands.
Thank you, Fremont County!
