Just before 1:00 a.m., Officers Neece & Crowder were dispatched to the 1100 blk. S. Prairie on report of a possible drive by shooting. Ofc. Neece arrived to find damage to the window of a nearby business. While he was still there, Dispatch aired that a male had just been dropped off at the ER with a gunshot wound to the thigh.

Ofc. Crowder went there & contacted a juvenile male who wouldn’t say who’d dropped him off. Officers later learned that he was in the area of the supposed drive by when he was wounded. They also learned that a gold-colored SUV was possibly involved.

A short time later, Ofc. O’Hayre saw such a vehicle with a broken rear window on Prairie. He followed at some distance until it pulled into a convenience store. He pulled in behind it & contacted the driver, ID’d as John Garnier. When he got Garnier out of the SUV he saw a pistol partially concealed under the driver’s seat. He also saw bullet holes in the SUV.

The investigation is ongoing, but Garnier, who’s twice been a Safe Streets fugitive, is in custody for Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender & having 24.5 grams of suspected heroin on him. Great job by all of the officers!
