30 years ago today, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office lost Lieutenant Cecilia Benefiel-Cipriani. On November 18, 1990, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) conducted a welfare check on EPSO Lieutenant Cecelia Benefiel-Cipriani after she did not show up for work. When they arrived at her home in the Ivywild area, they found Lt. Benefiel-Cipriani on the floor, still in her uniform, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. No eyewitnesses were identified, and neighbors did not identify unusual activity around the house near the time of the crime, although it was learned that several residential burglaries had recently occurred near Ivywild. It was not determined whether Lt. Benefiel-Cipriani was personally targeted in the murder, or if she may have interrupted a burglary in progress at her home. Although several potential suspects have been investigated in the years since this crime, no arrests have yet been made.
